Welcome to the Twenties, time to change the story? The Roaring Twenties were a decade of social change sandwiched between the devastation of the Great War and the Great Depression of the 1930’s. People flouted prohibition, celebrated enjoyment, and there were enormous changes in art, design, music, architecture, society and personal freedom.
I’m hoping the Twenty-Twenties have some of the same characteristics, minus the conclusion with economic collapse and another World War. The 1910’s don’t seem to have much of a residual mythology, other than the Great War. To me at least, the 2010’s are the same … pretty forgettable as a decade in many ways. No doubt many great things happened, it was 10-whole-years after all, but I would be happy if the tone of this next decade is very different to the overall tone of the last one.
For me at least, I plan on making significant changes, mostly mentally, in terms of mood, outlook, effort and thought patterns. It is going to be a glorious decade, challenges and set-backs will not consume my thinking, instead celebrations, adventures, experiences and thankfulness will. I will exercise reality re-alignment if I have to, because one thing is for sure, I am going to enjoy the Roaring Twenties, the Roaring Twenty-Twenties (2020s) that is, even if the news of the world wants to paint a different and far gloomier picture.
That doesn’t mean that I’m not cognisant of global-warming, compassionate for those suffering, or determined to do what I can where I can, but I refuse to buy into hopelessness on any front, so by hell-or-highwater I am going to have some fun, some serious fun.
…. and you should too!
Hopefully when I ultimately look back on this decade with 20-20 rear-vision, I can back this up and say the 2020’s were wonderful for so many memorable reasons. I am determined to make that the case, and you should be setting the same path for yourself. Don’t let anyone or anything stop you. You are allowed to enjoy this life even if some like to tell you otherwise. It’s the Roaring Twenties, time for a cocktail or two. Cheers!
